Uxbridge - It's Official - Spring like weather has arrived
The weather man on the radio declared winter officially over today .
Keep Your Children Away From Swollen Streams and Rivers
The Water Levels in rivers and stream around Uxbrige have risen dramatically with the warm spring like weather of the last few days. If we receive the anticipated showers over the next few days they will rise much higher and faster as the rain combines with the melting snow. With the ground still frozen the water quickly forms into rivulets running into the streams and rivers that abound in and around Uxbridge.
Water in local rivers can rise overnight into dangerous torrents as can be seen in Dangerous Waters Abound. The river in our yard has already risen several inches today.
Pictured here is the normal summer flow of about 3 to 4 inches in depth over the dam.
Right now it is 6 to 8 inches higer

Hmm We still have pockets of snow in CT
Rain forecasted all weekend, though, so I'm sure it'll be gone by tomorrow.
Kathy,
Great reminder for parents to keep their kids away from waterbodies....I noticed local streams are running pretty strong right now, even though we hardly had any snow.
Jo
Some of the rivers to be careful around in the Toronto area include the Rouge River, Don River and Humber River at this time of year.
Dagny - the picture is a summertime picture to show what it is usually like we have lots of snow still but it is shrinking.
Jo - I suspect your looking at the area ner the outlets but if yo follow them back to the source you will likely find the snow is melting or has just melted. We sit just over halfway from the source to the outlet of the one that runs trhough our back yard. There are lot of areas between us and the source that flood outwards as the water rises. eventually it all goes through the dam in the back yard. The flooding can be finished for several days in town (near the source) and still be high in our back yard.
Marc - Barrie's favourite swimming hole as a kid was the Don River, just about where the DVP and Lawrence ave now cross, both of which were not there back then
Kathy:
If the man on the radio says it is Spring, then it must be true.
Ty
Ty - :-)) Since when has the weatherman been a reliable source for weather information
Swollen streams usually end up surprising someone in a "not so good" way. It is important to be aware. The water often has a stronger current and is deeper than it appears to be. Thanks for remindng everyone.
Judi - it has risen another 4 inces since yesterday .... at least we did not get that much rain till today .... I expect it will be even higher tomorrow
The water continues to rise and is up approximately two feet in the last few days. at the moment it is halfway between the level shown here and the underside of the bridge.
